The Two-Faced Language

What's the worst that can happen? The worst that could happen is that there could be a mass extinction event. The worst that could happen is that our species will be wiped out by a massive asteroid. The worst that could happen is that our planet will collapse into a supernova. We have a finite amount of energy to provide to support all of life on Earth. But if this life is in any way threatened, we have a limited amount of energy to provide for them. So, our survival depends upon how fast we can generate power, or how long it takes to generate power. And that is really, really expensive. If we need to use more energy than we are willing to use to sustain life on Earth, that's not an option. We are already going to run out of energy within decades. We have a finite amount of energy, so if we are not prepared to use that energy to sustain life, there is no future for us in terms of human life on this planet. So, there are two ways to deal with our energy situation: We can continue to use fossil fuels for our energy needs, or we can produce all of our energy from solar and wind power, or from some combination of all of these methods. And I 'm going to tell you why it is worth considering these alternatives in a moment. But first, I want to tell you about some of the other options for powering life on this planet. So, you 've probably already heard about the possibility of a future solar revolution, the possibility of a future wind revolution, the possibility of a future tidal revolution, the possibility of a future wave of nuclear energy, the possibility of a future wave of fusion energy, or the possibility of some combination of these options. But what I 'm going to tell you about, right now, is something completely different. This new type of energy that we are producing is actually more energy-efficient and more sustainable than all the energy that we currently use to power life on this planet. It is the energy that we could generate if we would just stop wasting it on energy and waste it generating carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases. There is no need for the fossil fuels we 're using today. And, that ' s something that I think a lot of people are concerned about right now. I don 't think anybody believes that this is going to stop happening any time soon. But there is one other big change that is going to happen on our planet soon, that you probably haven ' t noticed but is going to affect the quality of our lives for a long, long time. It is going to make it much easier for us to live without having to buy a car or take an airplane to go to a place that we really don ' t want to go to. That change is going to happen when the sun finally does go out. And, that ' s going to happen not only in a matter of decades but, actually in an instant. It is going to happen and that 's something that is going to change the world. And I just want to make sure that people who are concerned about the environment, don ' t take for granted this fact that ' s going to happen. We will all be much, much safer and much, much healthier if we stop wasting our time on fossil fuels and stop creating more carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases.

The true author of this blog post isn’t me, an 18-year-old CEGEP student, but GPT-2, a text-generating AI created by OpenAI. With a few clicks, I was able to generate a decently written essay, albeit repetitive at times, that could fool any inattentive reader. Yes, this artificial intelligence could do your written assignments for you, it could be the solution to every person that has to suffer from writer’s block at times, but it could also become a tool that could aid the spread of propaganda and fake news.  Take this text as a warning of what could be to come. The worst that can happen in the next few years could indeed the exponential speed-up of climate change, but it could also be coupled with the ever-present indistinguishability of real news written by competent authors from fake stories generated by lifeless automatons.
